The Steam Room
44 years ago, a Hong Kong gentleman opened a Chinese Takeaway at 230 Kingsland Road. It was that same year when his son Tony arrived on the land of London.
After his father's retirement, Tony took over this shop space and opened a dry cleaning store called "THE STEAM ROOM". Every morning since 2004, he worked away under the mechanical heat and sounds, his concentration replaced by the sweats on his forehead. He could remember the face of every garment's owner, just like how he's never forgotten his roots…
The Steam Room is a story of innovation and reinvention.
In 1976, a Hong Kong gentleman opened a Chinese Takeaway at 230 Kingsland Road. On retirement, his son Tony took over the shop space and opened a dry cleaning store called The Steam Room.
Tony's wife Fran spotted a further opportunity to grow an accompanying lifestyle shop featuring unique artwork, clothing and homeware.
All the products represent practicality, sustainability and pride in traditional Chinese culture and their Asian heritage.
