Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025

Snakes have been known to symbolise renewal, prosperity, transformation and protection – along with knowledge and wisdom in Chinese culture.  Despite the negative connotations associated with Snakes, there are many positives throughout the cultures – where the strength and mystique of Snakes are admired.  In Western culture for instance, Snakes are often positively associated with healing and medicine – as seen in the symbol of medicine with two Snakes wrapped around a staff.  In some cultures, Snakes are associated with deities or gods - and are believed to be guardians.  In others they represent the concept of infinity.

Snakes are popular in modern day motifs due to their rich symbolism of regeneration and growth, through their ability to shed their skin, and many people admire their aesthetic beauty.

‘Snakey Eights’ blends together these positive elements alongside the number eight, widely considered to be the luckiest number in Chinese culture - symbolising abundance and good fortune.  Eights and infinity symbols become one here, and they remind us of the interconnectedness of all things: the balance of life, death and rebirth.  The number eight and the octagon as a shape have held great cultural significance for many cultures, throughout history in architecture, art and religion.  Both Snakes and eights are connected here, interweaving, and unbreakable.  A beautiful entanglement of colourful and fun connection across the cultures.

May these little Snakey Eights bring you good luck and prosperity!
