Refugee Tea Towel
‘Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me...’
These lines, written by Emma Lazarus in 1883, feature on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty in New York. Lazarus was inspired to write this by the sympathy she felt for the refugees fleeing the violence of the Russian pogroms. With over 82 million refugees torn from their homes today and in the face of an ongoing humanitarian disaster, we believe they are as relevant today as when they were first written.
